Billet and log heating
Extrutec
Extrutec engineers gas, electric high-convection, induction and hybrid billet-heating systems for precise temperature control, consistent extrusion and efficient energy use up to 96% heating efficiency.

Overview
Heating technology matched to your process.
Extrutec offers gas-fired, electric high-convection, induction and hybrid systems for accurate, repeatable billet and log heating. Each system is configured around the alloy, billet dimensions, required throughput, temperature taper and available energy infrastructure.
Gas-fired rapid heating
High-throughput furnaces provide rapid temperature changes, high availability and low maintenance. When combined with Extrutec’s Energy Saving Unit, recovered exhaust heat preheats the logs and can reduce gas consumption by approximately 14–18%.
Induction heating
Multi-zone induction systems use digital IGBT controls for precise, process-specific heating. Power Focus Technology™ distributes energy according to the required temperature gradient and can reduce connected load by approximately 25% in a typical hybrid application without reducing heating throughput.
Hybrid inline heating
Extrutec’s patented inline concept combines efficient gas-fired base heating with precise induction taper control. The arrangement improves flexibility, reduces space requirements and avoids the full electrical demand of stand-alone induction heating.
Electric high-convection heating
The electrically heated EHKO system provides uniform, gentle log heating with a reported thermal efficiency of 87%. When combined with induction, it delivers accurate final temperature control and offers a pathway towards lower-carbon production when powered by renewable electricity.

System capabilities
Configured around your extrusion process.
Every Extrutec heating system is engineered around your alloy range, billet dimensions, throughput target, required temperature profile and available energy supply. The technologies below can be specified individually or combined to deliver the right balance of heating accuracy, flexibility, efficiency and operating cost.
- Gas-fired rapid heating
- High-throughput continuous heating with rapid temperature changes, low stored heat and a maintenance-free billet transport system. An optional Energy Saving Unit recovers exhaust heat to preheat the logs and reduce gas consumption.
- Stand-alone induction heating
- Multi-zone induction heating with modern IGBT converter technology, digital process control and precise temperature-gradient management—providing flexibility for changing alloys, billet dimensions and production requirements.
- Power Focus Technology™
- Supplies each induction-heating zone according to the required temperature gradient. In a typical hybrid application, it can reduce connected load by approximately 25% without reducing heating throughput.
- Patented inline hybrid heating
- Combines economical gas-fired base heating with precise induction temperature adjustment and taper control. The inline arrangement reduces floor-space requirements and improves efficiency compared with conventional stand-alone configurations.
- Electric high-convection heating
- Extrutec’s EHKO system uses electrically heated, high-velocity air for uniform and gentle log heating. It achieves a reported thermal efficiency of 87% and can be combined with inline induction for precise final temperature control.

Measurement, cutting and process-control solutions.

EAGLE cooling-rate data logger
Mounted directly on the profile, EAGLE records the complete cooling process at four temperature readings per second. With an accuracy of ±7.5 K, it provides stable real-time data for analysing and optimising profile cooling.

Handheld pyrometer
A robust, ergonomic instrument for fast temperature spot checks in production and quality assurance. It provides stable measurements with an accuracy of ±7.5 K and is optionally available with calibration and certification.

ExtruLUBE high-performance lubricating oil
Specially formulated for Extrutec hot and cold saws, ExtruLUBE provides clean lubrication, reduced friction and longer service life for saw blades and equipment. It supports cleaner cuts, lower oil consumption, reduced smoke and mist, and more stable production. The formulation contains 80–85% sustainable raw materials.
Your advantages
- Less oil consumption
- Clean cut surfaces, low smoke and mist formation
- 32% additives for reliable lubrication
- 80–85% sustainable raw materials
- More stable processes, less readjustment

Saw blades
Reduced blade thickness minimises kerf and material loss while supporting clean cuts and a stable sawing process. Combined with the matched ExtruLUBE lubrication and nozzle system, the blades deliver precise, durable performance.

Log brushing system
Water-free aluminium-log cleaning using pneumatically controlled stainless-steel brushes. The system eliminates the high-pressure pump, water treatment and extraction equipment, with optional straightness measurement to identify bent logs before processing.
Chip extraction and collection
High-performance extraction removes aluminium chips from the cutting area and transfers them to a collection system, supporting cleaner operation, safe material handling and efficient recycling.
